DOH gives 140 Pangasinan communities P28 million worth of medical supplies

140 communities in the sixth district of the province of Pangasinan have received medical equipment worth PHP28 million from the Department of Health (DOH) as part of the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP).

A dressing cart, minor surgical set, mechanical bed, spine board, EENT (eyes, ears, nose, and tongue) diagnostic set, weighing scale with BMI calculator, infant weighing scale, fetal doppler and examining table, medicine cabinet, and instrument cabinet are all included in each barangay health station (BHS) package.

DOH Center for Health Development Ilocos Director Paula Paz Sydiongco said in a statement on Tuesday that the equipment was given to barangay health stations so they would be fully equipped and able to provide primary care services to prevent, diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate illnesses and diseases at the local level, safely and effectively.

She claimed that because the health stations provide essential community services, it is appropriate to provide them with full medical supplies.

“We are focusing on the expansion of primary care facilities because we also need to deal with the growing population in order to provide them with the necessary health care services,” she said.

The barangay health stations, she continued, are responsible for providing the municipality with preventive, regulatory, and medical care services, such as general consultations, dental services, maternal health, family planning, nutrition, immunization, laboratory examinations, health promotion/education, environmental sanitation services, communicable/noncommunicable disease control, and community-based rehabilitation services.

According to Sydiongco, a BHS must make sure that patients’ wants and health preferences are respected when providing medical care.

As part of the Universal Health Care Program, the DOH has also given nine ambulances to the Pangasinan local governments in an effort to improve community access to medical care.

Because it is fully equipped with medical equipment to provide first aid treatment and continuum care on the way to the health facilities, she claimed that it will be used for pre-medical care or as an emergency response vehicle.

The local government agency would be responsible for the upkeep and management of the land ambulances, including a designated driver to oversee the vehicle, she noted.

A folding stretcher, portable suction machine, defibrillator, examining light, an aneroid sphygmomanometer, scoop stretcher, stethoscopes, non-contact thermometers, blood-glucose meters with strips, resuscitators for infants, children, and adults, oxygen therapy set, laryngoscope set, immobilization tools, delivery set, and patient transfer monitor are all included in the land ambulances’ full equipment list.

According to Syidong, the beneficiaries included the local governments of Sison and Tayug towns as well as the rural health units of Agno, Balungao, Rosales, San Manuel, Santa Maria, Villasis town, and Urdaneta City Health Office.
