Using digital technology, DICT gives Central Luzon IP communities more power.
Through the use of digital technology, the indigenous peoples (IPs) in Central Luzon (Region 3) are continuously being empowered by the department of information and communications technology.
Since last year, the DICT-3 has developed four Technology Empowerment for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development (TECH4ED) centers in collaboration with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples-Central Luzon (NCIP 3).
The four TECH4ED villages that were developed closer to IPs are situated in the towns of Porac in Pampanga, Carranglan in Nueva Ecija, Capas in Tarlac, and Botolan in Zambales.
The most recent to debut on March 15 was the one in Zambales.
The TECH4ED center offers information and communication technology (ICT)-enabled services to indigenous cultural communities that have little to no access to the internet and other government services, according to Reynaldo Sy, DICT-3 Regional Director.
“A Tech4ED Center is a self-sufficient, cooperative space that offers access to ICT-enabled services and pertinent information. It acts as a conduit for the effective delivery of government services and other services, and it is a powerful instrument for empowering and involving underprivileged and unserved communities in development, according to a statement he made.
According to Sy, the centers offer e-learning on demand, a marketplace, a job portal, farming technology, government services, high-quality health information, crisis management, and unique material that IPs may access.
He promised that the DICT will continue to support the region’s IPs.
Roland Calde, the regional director for NCIP-3, complimented DICT-3 for the Tech4ED Center, which strives to close the gaps and provide IPs with access to digital technologies.
Our sincere gratitude goes out to DICT Region 3, its administration, and the entire dedicated team who worked tirelessly to make this initiative a reality. We will carefully watch the aforementioned project and explore the opening of additional Tech4ED Centers for the IP communities in the future, according to Calde.
