Ilocos Norte has not yet seen any crimes involving tourists, according to PNP

The safest province for travelers is Ilocos Norte, which was the first in the Philippines to get the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) Safe Travels Stamp for implementing internationally acclaimed health and safety procedures during the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) epidemic.

Julius Suriben, provincial director of the Ilocos Norte police, stated Friday that there have been no crimes involving tourists so far this year during the first-quarter provincial peace and order council meeting, which was held at the Capitol auditorium.

Suriben stated, “We are happy to report that there was zero case involving tourists,” adding that there had been 150 criminal incidents overall this year, down from 166 during the same period last year.

At least 36 “protect boxes,” operated by tourism police, are dispersed around the province to ensure the security of tourists and other guests.

The project boxes were placed by the police in prominent and reachable locations throughout the province where members of the public might go for safety or aid. At least two police officers are constantly on duty at each of the project boxes thanks to Suriben’s initiative.

These are situated near popular tourist destinations and gathering spots for the general population.

The project boxes are a component of our effort to extend the reach of our services outside PNP stations, he explained.

One of the first tourist attractions in the Philippines to reopen is Ilocos Norte. The province was also a founding member of the Region I (Ilocos) Provinces and Baguio City Ridge and Reef Tourism Corridor.

According to Xavier Ruiz, an officer in charge of the Ilocos Norte Tourism Office, they have acknowledged the existence of safety nets for industry participants, specifically the creation of a tourists’ triage, the regular carrying out of hotel inspections, and efforts to prioritize tourism workers in the vaccine rollout.

Numerous lodging options in popular locations, according to Ruiz, are currently completely filled for bookings throughout Holy Week.
