P20 million solar projects would provide clean water to the Lucena villages.
Three villages in this city will soon have reliable access to potable water thanks to solar-powered systems that David Suarez’s office will be installing for a total of PHP20 million.
Suarez and local officials laid the first concrete for the projects in each of the three villages on Friday.
According to an interview with Josefina Dalangin, city coordinator and interim team leader for the 150-household community in Sitio Kurba, Barangay Ibabang Iyam, the project will not only serve the locals in their region in terms of drinking water but also in irrigating their rice fields.
According to Engr. John Ceedee Alvarez, Engineer II at the Department of Public Works and Highways-Quezon II District Engineering Office, the Level II Public Water Supply System, with PHP5 million money, will be able to produce 13,000 liters of water per day, adequate for 500 families. (DPWH-Quezon II DEO).
The remaining water from the water supply system can be used to irrigate the 20-hectare rice fields of the community since Sitio Kurba only has 150 families, he continued.
“The project will go out for bid in April, and construction will probably start in June. The schedule is 180 days, so this sitio (sub-village) will have access to clean, potable water by September, according to Alvarez in a separate interview.
The family of Pedrito Sedaria donated the plot of land in Barangay Ibabang Iyam where the mechanism and water tank are situated.
500 families would benefit from the PHP5 million water system project at Purok Anak Bagong Sinag Phase 2 in Barangay Cotta.
The cost of the other project, which is located in Purok Sta. Teresa’s Barangay Dalahican, is PHP 10 million, and it will help 900 homes.
Suarez stressed the value of clean, safe water during his remarks at the festivities, which, he claimed, motivated him to take immediate action as soon as he got the request for the projects.
