Prepares for a surge of tourists during Holy Week: Pangasinan PDRRMO
In preparation for the flood of visitors during Holy Week, the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) will be operating at full capacity the next week.
A series of cluster meetings are being held with the relevant national government agencies and other stakeholders, according to PDRRMO operations head Vincent Chiu in an interview on Wednesday, to develop effective guidelines.
As the limitations have loosened as opposed to previous years, he remarked, “We are anticipating more tourists to come.”
Together with the five current towers or lifeguard posts, an incident command post will be erected, according to Chiu.
Ambulances will be on standby, and members of the Water Search and Rescue Team and the Provincial Health Office will also be present, he added.
In particular, the PDRRMO will concentrate on its beach procedures around the Lingayen Gulf, as well as in the beach and river areas in the various regions of the province.
At the beach around the holidays, jellyfish stings and near drownings are common, according to Chiu.
He added that different areas have different sets of recommendations to follow based on the scenario in their jurisdiction. “PDRRMO will release guidelines in conjunction with the local government units to safeguard the safety of the people,” he said.
To prevent inconveniences, he advised the general population to follow these procedures.
In the meantime, 52 driver assistance centers will be put up in Pangasinan for Holy Week by the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO).
In a recent interview, Capt. Renan dela Cruz, information officer for the PPPO, stated that a total of 456 personnel, including those who will staff 48 of the help centers, will be deployed throughout the holiday. The DPWH staff will be in charge of the remainder.
According to him, the support centers will offer directions or emergency assistance to drivers and visitors and will increase police visibility, which deters crime.
In places of convergence, such as tourist hotspots, there will be maximum deployment and continuous mobile patrolling. Being the first Holy Week without limitations, we anticipate a surge of travelers, he continued.
