Malacanang stated on Friday that work would be suspended in government buildings beginning at noon on Holy Wednesday, April 5, to give employees plenty of time to get ready for the celebration of Holy Week.

In Memorandum Circular 16, which was authored by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the Palace made the statement.

Work in government offices on April 5, 2023, will be suspended starting at 12:00 p.m., the memo stated, “to give government employees the complete opportunity to properly observe 06-07 April 2023, normal holidays, and to allow them to travel to and from the many locations in the country.”

Nonetheless, it stipulated that government organizations whose duties include providing basic and health services, preparing for and responding to disasters, and providing other essential services, shall continue with their operations.

As for private businesses and offices, their respective bosses have the discretion to suspend operations.

Maundy Thursday, April 6, and Good Friday, April 7, were previously recognized as regular holidays by the Palace.

In honor of Araw ng Kagitingan, April 10 has also been named a regular holiday (Day of Valor).
