Beginning May 1, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) will discontinue using departure cards made of paper.

Instead, passengers must complete the departure cards online through eTravel between 72 and three hours prior to the scheduled departure time of the flight.

The platform, which was first introduced in December, streamlines data collection procedures at ports of arrival.

BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement over the weekend that “this is a major step in streamlining documents presented by departing travelers, allowing for faster and more efficient immigration processing.” He added that the platform can soon be used by arriving travelers.

Travelers can register at the portal beginning on April 15, according to Dennis Javier, chair of the eTravel technical working group.

The system is a project of the BI-led Inter-Agency Task Force’s sub-technical working group.

It is a collaborative effort between the National Privacy Commission, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, the Department of Tourism, the Bureau of Quarantine, the Bureau of Customs, the Department of Health, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of Justice.
