The Bureau of Customs (BOC) exceeded its collection goal for the previous month by PHP7.851 billion (10.86%).

The agency said in a statement on Tuesday that the PHP80.133 billion collected in March was the highest monthly collection so far in 2023.

The agency’s diligent staff members were praised by Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, who emphasized that their steadfast dedication to public service is what made this accomplishment possible.

I am so proud of the men and women of the BOC, he added. “This outstanding achievement is a monument to their unshakable commitment to public service and the successful implementation of our priority projects.”

Rubio promised to keep making changes to the system in order to fulfill its primary goal of properly collecting taxes to generate additional income for the government.

“We will continue to advocate for improvements in the bureau to make sure that we are giving the Filipino people the finest service and assisting in the development of the nation’s economy,” he added.

The bureau announced on Monday that it has surpassed its income projection for the first quarter of 2023 by PHP16.6 billion, or 8.43%.

In contrast to the revenue objective of PHP197.020 billion for the period, it brought in a total of PHP213.619 billion from January to March.

Rubio credited the agency’s five priority initiatives, which are aimed at digitalizing Customs processes, hitting and exceeding the target, streamlining procedures, reducing smuggling in all its forms, and enhancing personnel welfare and development, for the agency’s good collecting record.

The government’s agencies for collecting taxes are the BOC and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
