DILG requests LGU cooperation for the OP’s Konsulta Program
Local government units (LGUs) were urged to support the Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama (Konsulta) Program, which aims to improve the quality and delivery of health services and preventative health care to Filipinos, by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr.
Through the First Lady Marie Louise “Liza” Araneta-Marcos, the program offers a primary care benefit package that includes consultation, health screening, and evaluation, laboratory tests, as well as medications.
“The provision of health services at the community level is one of our top goals, and we turn to our LGUs to make sure this is the case. Ating narating at nalagpasan na malayo. Now, the benchmark goal is to guarantee that these services and facilities are made affordable and accessible for everyone under the Konsulta Program (Health services are one of our government’s priorities, and we look to our LGUs to guarantee that health services are effectively implemented in the grassroots). We’ve come a long way and succeeded in getting over it. The Konsulta Program is a big help in achieving the benchmark target, which is to make these services and facilities inexpensive and accessible for everyone, said Abalos in a statement on Thursday.
The head of DILG stated that LGU-run health facilities and units could apply to become authorized Konsulta Program providers, giving them the chance to offer the program’s services to their constituents.
“We hope that the LGUs would make use of the Konsulta Program’s health services options for their residents,” Abalos added.
Abalos asked the LGUs to broaden the scope of the program by providing Konsulta packages to their constituents who are already PhilHealth members through DILG Memorandum Circular 2023-049, which was released by the Department.
“Ang mga packages na ito po ay kumpleto, at di kagandahan ay ang focus sa early identification ng mga sakit” (These packages are complete and the good thing about this is its focus on early detection of diseases). Each plan includes standard maintenance medications and consultations, as well as access to laboratory tests, evaluations, and screenings for health risks.
Additionally, he gave instructions to local practitioners and specialists in health to examine the existing operational local health facilities to determine whether they meet PhilHealth and Department of Health (DOH) requirements.
Additionally, he instructed the LGUs to launch Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaigns to tell the people of the advantages of this national government program.
Abalos also acknowledged the First Lady’s and the Office of the President’s (OP) leadership in directing the initiative and its execution.
The Konsulta program is evidence that the well-being of the Filipino people, especially the poor, is always in the heart and thoughts of both our President and our First Lady, as stated in “Ang Konsulta program ay patunay lamang na ang kapakanan at kagalingan ng mga mamamayang Pilipino, lalo na ng mahihirap,” “Interior Secretary made a point.
With the passing of Republic Act 11233, also known as the Universal Health Care Act, the current Primary Care Benefits and Extended Primary Care packages would be made available to all Filipinos through the PhilHealth Konsulta program.
In the second year of the Konsulta initiative, PhilHealth hopes to register 4 million members while also expanding the number of approved medical institutions in each region.
