Signal No. 1 is active in Samar and Bicol; LPA is now TD Amang.
According to the weather service, Tropical Depression (TD) Amang, which formed from the low-pressure area (LPA) east of Catanduanes, is expected to deliver rain and strong gusts over Northern and Eastern Samar.
Moderate to heavy, occasionally severe rainfall might cause flooding or landslides, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Agency (PAGASA), while strong winds could pose a minimum to a slight threat to lives and property.
Amang is also expected to bring sporadic rain showers and thunderstorms to Central Visayas, Caraga, the Bicol Region, and the rest of Eastern Visayas.
According to PAGASA, these locations may also experience landslides or flash floods as a result of moderate to occasionally severe rains.
Areas where Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised, including Catanduanes, the northern portion of Eastern Samar (Taft, Can-Avid, Sulat, Dolores, Oras, Arteche, San Policarpo, Jipapad, Maslog, San Julian), and the eastern part of Northern Samar, will experience a strong breeze to nearly gale strength winds (Catubig, Lapinig, Gamay, Mapanas, Palapag, Laoang, San Roque, Pambujan, Mondragon).
The eastern coast of Southern Luzon, as well as the northern and eastern coasts of the Visayas, will experience rough seas.
It is cautioned against entering the water by fishing boats and other small craft, and major seagoing vessels are warned against high waves.
Amang is expected to stay offshore for the next three days over the waters east of Luzon, but a landfall over the northern part of Samar Island or the Bicol Peninsula is not completely ruled out.
Amang is anticipated to continue as a tropical depression through Thursday or Friday before weakening into an LPA.
