Despite the rise in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, the Department of Health (DOH) is not considering reintroducing the face mask requirement.

The nation’s positivity rate, or the proportion of people who test positive for Covid-19, rose from 6.9% last week to 7.6% in recent weeks.

The average daily Covid-19 infections increased as well, from 276 cases the previous week to 371 cases today.

“This is an optional. Nothing is currently being considered about it, according to DOH Officer in Charge Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, who stated this in a media briefing on Tuesday.

Vergeire suggested that one of the reasons for the rise in cases could be the liberalization of many economic sectors.

“We encourage everyone, even before, to choose, to know when to wear face masks,” she said. “Even before, to choose, to know when to wear face masks.”

She cited early recommendations on face mask use and suggested that they be worn for protection by the elderly, persons with co-morbidities, people in crowded settings, and people in places with poor ventilation.

She added that the country’s healthcare system is “prepared” to handle cases of Covid-19 requiring medical attention.

More than 4.08 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 66,420 fatalities have been reported in the nation so far.

In total, 78,443,972 Filipinos have gotten the Covid-19 vaccine, with 23,811,248 receiving booster injections.
