DFA: The visit by the Australian trade minister will deepen commercial ties.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Wednesday that the Philippines is getting ready to welcome Australian Trade and Tourism Minister Don Farrell, who will be in the nation from April 20 to 25 on a working visit.

In order to discuss “issues of mutual concern,” Farrell will meet with the secretaries of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and the Department of Finance (DOF), according to the DFA.

The official will go to Manila after a stop in Vietnam.

Before leaving, Farrell stated that Australia was seeking chances to deepen its economic connections with Manila, notably in the fields of mining, tourism, education, and renewable energy.

“We expect that the excellent bilateral connections we have with both countries will see a sustained increase in two-way travel,” he said. “In our region, Vietnam and the Philippines are among the top emerging markets for international tourism to Australia.

Farrell will meet with corporate executives and representatives of the travel and tourism sectors in addition to government officials to talk about how Canberra and Manila may increase bilateral commerce, investment, and tourism.

Following trips by Special Envoy for Southeast Asia Nicholas Moore and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Richard Marles in February and last month, this is the third high-ranking Australian government official to visit the Philippines in 2023.

Marles previously met with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Vice President Sara Duterte, Senior Undersecretary and officer-in-charge Carlito Galvez, Jr., of the Department of National Defense (DND), and Special Envoy Moore with Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Pascual, and Diokno.

The DFA stated that as the two nations endeavor to raise their relations to a higher plane this year, “these visits reflect the strong bilateral relations between the Philippines and Australia.”

In honor of their 77-year friendship, the Philippines and Australia have worked closely together in a variety of fields.
