A new driver’s manual designed to improve the skill level of Filipino professional drivers will be released on Friday by the Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP).

According to LTOP national president Orlando Marquez Sr., the newest edition of the manual, titled “Gabay sa Ligtas na Pagmamaneho,” has received approval from Malacanang since it includes updated information that would help local drivers comply with international standards.

Previous iterations of the manual, according to Marquez, were unable to win the government’s approval as a comprehensive reference work because they were missing specific details deemed essential for today’s professional drivers.

The more strict standards for acquiring a professional driver’s license vs a non-professional license are among the topics covered in the recently produced guidebook.

The greater accountability of professional drivers is emphasized in the new handbook, something that is not frequently explained to drivers of public utility vehicles now, according to Marquez.

He noted that the updated manual includes important information that every motorist has to be aware of, like how to obtain and renew a driver’s license, read and comprehend road signs, drive courteously, and follow traffic laws.

The 161-page document also includes a maintenance checklist for cars and even instructions on what to do in the event of a car accident.

Marquez added that Nick Valerio, Jr. originally wrote the manual, which was then revised by LTOP as a standard reference for its members and potential members.
