PBBM will achieve Philippine economic goals while in the US, according to the DFA

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will principally advance the administration’s economic agenda during his official visit to the United States (US), particularly by promoting the Philippines as an investment destination, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday.

Marcos’ travel to Washington, D.C., from April 30 to May 4 would be intended to strengthen defense relations between the Philippines and the US as well as enhance attempts to create economic alliances, according to DFA spokesperson Ma. Terersita Daza during a news briefing in Malacaang.

During his visit, Marcos will meet with US President Joe Biden and important Cabinet members.

“I think for this trip, there will be a heavy emphasis on the economic agenda; how the President will work to advance his priorities in terms of agriculture and food security, in terms of infrastructure development, terms of renewable energy, and in terms of clean energy,” Daza added.

“There will be numerous possibilities when the President is in Washington, D.C. I believe he will touch on several relational topics. Along with defense and security, it will also promote economic interest and other things, she continued.

According to Daza, the President will also meet with significant US businesses and groups “where he will actually be able to promote the Philippines” as an investment destination and trading partner.

Additionally, the President is scheduled to meet with Filipino-Americans who “represent the Philippine-American Diaspora in the United States, which numbers approximately 4.4 million.”

President Marcos will also provide a significant policy speech to a group of experts in Washington, D.C.

A statement released by the US State Department stated that during Marcos’ planned visit, “President Biden will reaffirm the United States’ ironclad commitment to the defense of the Philippines,” and the two leaders would also talk about ways to fortify the enduring US-Philippines partnership.
