The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Monday that the number of places under granular lockdown throughout the country has risen to 900, citing an increase in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases.

According to the police force’s most recent data, this represents a tiny rise from only 700 areas as of Sunday.

The Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has the most areas under granular lockdown (330), followed by the Ilocos Region (233), Cagayan Valley (212), National Capital Region (106), and Mimaropa (19).

Three CAR provinces — Kalinga, Ifugao, and Mountain Province — are on Alert Level 4 from January 21 to 31.

An escalation to Alert Level 4 indicates that a region’s healthcare use rate has above 70%, with a frighteningly high two-week increase and average daily attack rates (ADAR).

To ensure security and adherence to minimum health requirements, 211 PNP troops and 443 force multipliers were sent to the impacted districts.

Local government units (LGUs) apply the Alert Level System guidelines to determine whether to impose or lift a granular lockdown on a house, complex, street, or building based on the number of reported diseases.
