The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced Friday night that private sector and government workers would be given free rides on the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 on May 1 to lessen their financial burden and recognize their significant contributions to the development of the country.

This came after the Department of Transportation granted the Labor Department’s request for free transportation for Filipinos on May Day.

The free trips are available from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on weekends during peak hours.

Employees must show their workplace identification cards or another valid government-issued identification card to get the free rides.

They must observe laws and regulations, including wearing face masks, and submit to routine frisking and baggage inspections by LRT Line 2 management.

The 17.6-kilometer LRT Line 2 route serves 13 stations. Specifically, these stations are in Recto, Legarda, Pureza, V. Mapa, J. Ruiz, Gilmore, Betty Go-Belmonte, Araneta Center-Cubao, Anonas, Katipunan, Santolan, Marikina-Pasig, and Antipolo.

The National Capital Region’s job fairs will host several locations, according to DOLE, and attendees are also anticipated to use the free transportation.

The locations for the job fair in Metro Manila are the Pasay City SMX Convention Center, the Caloocan City SM City Grand Central, the Paranaque City SM City Sucat and the Las Pias City SM Southmall, the City of Manila San Andres Gymnasium, the Quezon City Quadrangle and the Marikina City Quadrangle.

More than 700 firms will provide more than 70,000 jobs.

The subject of the 121st Labor Day celebration, “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho Para sa Manggagawang Pilipino,” will be led by the DOLE.
