In Ilocos Norte, around 11,000 government employees would receive rice relief.
The national government will provide one-time rice support to eligible government employees and employees in the province of Ilocos Norte.
The National Food Authority has allocated 11,280 sacks of rice, each weighing 25 kilos, for the program in Ilocos Norte.
On Thursday, as they started distributing rice to eligible staff members of numerous national government line agencies in this area, NFA Branch Manager Jonathan Corpuz confirmed this.
He added that the target recipient had already received more than 300 bags of rice, and the deadline for delivery was May 19.
Personnel from the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority, the Bureau of Treasury, and other organizations were among the initial group of recipients.
The National Food Authority (NFA) previously received from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) a total of PHP1,182,905,000 for the distribution of one-time rice aid to all eligible employees and workers of national government entities.
The Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) and associated Notice of Cash Allocation (NCA) were approved by DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman on April 12, 2023.
According to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive, Pangandaman said in a statement, “We shall ensure the welfare of our government employees by giving them assistance for their household needs and, at the same time, boosting the production of our rice farmers.”
Around 1,892,648 government employees, including job orders and contracts of service personnel, who will still be employed by government agencies as of November 30, 2022, were included as beneficiaries under the rice assistance program.
The one-time rice support program also covered Ilocos Norte government employees in addition to those employed by the federal government. However, as of the time of this posting, the list of beneficiaries is still being finalized.
Irene Ringor, a representative of the provincial government, said, “We are thankful to be included in the program because we don’t have a rice farm where we could get our supply of rice.”
