On Thursday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. stated that the Philippines had already returned to “normal footing” before the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic’s emergency phase to be over.

Marcos claimed there was no need to reinstate the emergency status in the nation in light of the downgrading of the global health emergency during a media interview on board his trip back to the Philippines.

Martin Romualdez, the speaker of the House of Representatives, stated that the WHO announcement should help the Philippines maintain economic development or even move the country’s economy to a higher growth path.

According to Romualdez, the lifting would result in greater economic activity, increased mobility, and consequently, more job and income options for employees and their families.

He pointed out that the relaxation of travel regulations will increase foreign visitors to the Philippines.

“Let the concerned government agencies and sectors of the economy prepare for this possibility, which will benefit tourist destinations and local communities,” the speaker said.

Romualdez maintained that to avoid contracting Covid-19, the general public should constantly adhere to the bare minimum health regulations, including wearing face masks when necessary, routinely washing hands, isolating themselves when ill, and getting vaccinations, and maintaining a physical distance.
