Reiterating its offer for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to make a state visit to France, the French government congratulated the Philippines on the 125th anniversary of its independence.

President of France Emmanuel Macron wrote to Marcos to wish him a happy Philippine Independence Day and to emphasize the “fruitful relations and the rich cooperation” between the two countries.

According to the French Embassy in Manila on Tuesday, “President Macron reiterated, on that occasion, expressed (sic) his wish to host President Marcos in France for a State visit.”

When questioned about any developments in the conversations about the potential trip, the Department of Foreign Affairs has not yet responded.

Macron has issued Marcos a formal invitation letter, according to earlier claims made by French Ambassador Michèle Boccoz in Manila. If the summit does take place, the two administrations want to make sure the trip is “as fruitful as possible.”

In 1947, France and the Philippines formally established diplomatic ties.

Over the years, Manila and Paris have worked together to advance the Indo-Pacific region’s freedom and openness, enforce international law, combat climate change, and foster cultural exchanges.

The French Embassy in Manila has been planning a number of cultural events since June 2022 to commemorate 75 years of cooperation.
