The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to prioritize digitalization.

In a statement, BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio emphasized the necessity of digitalization, enabling the agency to offer improved public and commercial sector services.

To properly provide BOC services, “digitalizing processes is a top priority,” he stated.

According to the agreement, the two organizations may work together to enhance the BOC’s information and communication technology (ICT) systems, which is also consistent with the Marcos administration’s goals for e-governance.

“This partnership aims to promote the integration, interoperability, and interconnection of their systems and applications,” it stated.

Information sharing between agencies and security measures to ensure secure deployment are both included in the collaboration.

The MOU also calls for DICT to evaluate the current customs systems in person. This will also influence whether or not additional applications for the BOC are created.

The BOC continued, “They will ensure a seamless integration, develop additional applications as necessary, and provide recommendations and strategies for improving the ICT system.”

Ivan John Uy, David Almirol Jr., and Paul Joseph Mercado, undersecretaries of the DICT, joined BOC representatives for the MOU signing on Thursday.

However, the BOC had before promised to fight for modernization inside the agency to simplify services and improve trade and travel.
