A senior Church leader urged candidates for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) 2023 to serve the community honestly.

Jose Palma, the archbishop of Cebu, emphasized the significance of each candidate having done enough introspection and self-evaluation to be prepared to represent the interests of the majority of constituents.

He appealed four months in advance of the October elections.

“I would encourage anyone who genuinely desires to serve to do so. Declare your desire to serve the planet. Once elected, be genuinely serious, the Archbishop of Cebu stated in an interview broadcast on the church-run radio station Radio Veritas.

As the primary means of meeting the needs of the tiny community, the archbishop also urged the populace to select the future leaders of each barangay carefully.

Be serious about the election; we carefully consider, pray for, and elect people we believe can provide truly true, effective service to the community, continued Palma.

For candidates running in the village and youth elections, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has already set the filing period from August 28 to September 2.

The election will take place on October 30. The campaign season will run from October 19 to October 28. On November 29, statements of contributions and expenditures (SOCE) must be filed.

In the nation, there are approximately 42,000 barangays.
