The Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Caraga Region (DENR-13) reported that a simultaneous tree planting commemorating Arbour Day on Sunday successfully covered 19 regional priority sites.

The 19 priority locations, according to data released by the DENR-13 on Monday, included two in Butuan City, four in Agusan del Norte, six in Agusan del Sur, two in Surigao del Norte, four in Surigao del Sur, and one in the Dinagat Islands.

According to DENR-13, 9,200 seedlings, including several hardwood species including lauan, mahogany, mangium, molave, and magcuno, were planted on Arbour Day.

Aside from these species, seedlings of several fruit trees, including rambutan, lanzones, and mangosteen, were also planted, including talisay, acasia, narra, Palawan cherry, golden shower, dao, bamboo, and pili.

According to DENR-13 data, 2,126 people from various government agencies, local governments, and the business sector participated in the tree-planting event.

DENR-13 assembled 158 volunteers at its planting site at the Cabadbaran River Water Forest Reserve in Cabadbaran City, who planted 1,100 different tree seedlings.

Arbour Day aims to encourage a healthier ecosystem by restoring the natural environment.
