According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), around 50 families were compelled to leave their homes within Mayon volcano’s 6-kilometer permanent danger zone.

DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Romel Lopez revealed that the Bicol Regional Office initiated the forced evacuation after receiving verified reports that numerous families refused to evacuate Barangay Anoling. This area is geographically isolated and located in Camalig town, Albay province.

The immediate evacuation was carried out by the Camalig Municipal Police Station, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, and Municipal Disaster Response and Management Office, as stated by DSWD regional director Norman Laurio.

“The 50 families from Barangay Anoling will be temporarily housed at the Baligang Elementary School. The ongoing validation aims to determine the exact number of families affected,” Laurio reported to DSWD’s Disaster Response and Management Group.

Just last month, more than 13,000 residents residing within Mayon’s 6-kilometer permanent danger zone were evacuated due to the volcano’s eruption, including lava and sulfuric gas release.

On Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) announced that the volcano experienced 26 volcanic earthquakes and 303 rockfall events within the past 24 hours.
