Ilocos Region on blue alert status as Tropical Depression Dodong approaches 🌧️⚠️
The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) has raised the blue alert status in the entire Ilocos Region in anticipation of the possible effects of Tropical Depression Dodong. OCD regional director Gregory Cayetano urged the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council member agencies and local disaster risk reduction and management councils to submit their preparedness measures.
Cayetano emphasized the importance of science-based decisions and close monitoring of tropical cyclone bulletins, warnings, and advisories issued by the weather bureau. He also called for the preparation of critical services and facilities, increased capabilities for logistic requirements, and resource inventory and stockpiling.
Cayetano requested that sailing, fishing, and swimming activities be avoided in areas with gale warnings or related issuances to ensure safety. The Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and concerned national government agencies have conducted a pre-disaster assessment to review protocols and implement necessary preparedness measures and response activities.
Barangay councils in the province were asked to activate their response teams, while emergency vehicles, trucks, and water search and rescue teams were on standby for preemptive evacuation if needed.
Tropical Depression Dodong maintains its strength as it moves north-northwestward over the northwestern Cagayan area, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 75 km/h. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number 1 has been raised in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, and the northern portion of Pangasinan.
With heavy rainfall expected in the region, the possibility of flooding and rain-induced landslides remains a concern. Stay vigilant and follow the guidance of local authorities to ensure everyone’s safety.
