π΅π PH Interest, Filipinos’ Security Must be Top Priorities: PBBM π‘οΈ
MANILA β President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has emphasized the importance of upholding the Philippines’ interests and ensuring the security of its citizens as the government’s top priorities. He directed the National Security Council (NSC) and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) to remain steadfast in their commitment to these goals.
Speaking at the joint anniversary celebration of the NSC and NICA at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on Thursday, President Marcos acknowledged the crucial role played by these agencies in safeguarding the nation against various threats for over seven decades.
Addressing the NSC and NICA, he praised them as the “silent guardians” protecting the country from national threats, steadfast vanguards keeping enemies at bay, and faithful watchers ensuring order and stability.
President Marcos urged both agencies to be prepared for the tasks ahead and to continue prioritizing national interests and the security of the Filipino public.
President Marcos acknowledged that the country still faces pressing issues while celebrating the achievements of the NSC’s 73rd and NICA’s 74th founding anniversaries. These include threats to territorial integrity and sovereignty, terrorism and local communist insurgency, cybersecurity challenges, and the dangers of climate change.
Despite the clandestine nature of their work, President Marcos expressed his appreciation for the NSC and NICA’s “brilliant handiwork, courageous grit, and selfless sacrifice,” recognized by those aware of the hard work they put into keeping the country safe.
He assured both agencies of his continued reliance on their expertise, particularly when national security intertwines with economic and social transformation.
The NSC, established by Executive Order 330 on July 1, 1950, serves as the principal advisory body for coordinating and integrating plans and policies affecting national security. It comprises two distinct bodies: the Council Proper and the NSC Secretariat.
The NICA, established on July 1, 1949, through Executive Order 235, serves as the central coordinating agency for integrating government activities related to national intelligence. It prepares intelligence estimates on local and foreign situations, contributing to formulating national policies in this regard.
President Marcos emphasizes the nation’s interests and security, so he looks to these agencies to continue their vital contributions to safeguarding the Philippines and its citizens. π΅πππ‘οΈππΌπ οΈπ
