BARMM Development Part of Marcos Administration’s Agenda for Prosperity

MANILA – Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman reassured the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) of the Marcos administration’s commitment to its development as part of the agenda for prosperity. Pangandaman made the assurance during the 15th National Government – Bangsamoro Government Intergovernmental Relations Body (IGRB) Meeting with Minister Mohagher Iqbal at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.
She emphasized the national government’s commitment to assisting the BARMM region and integrating it into the Agenda for Prosperity. Pangandaman credited the gains achieved during the smooth transition to the strengthened cooperation and mutual trust between the national and BARMM governments.
The IGRB meeting aimed to strengthen the harmonious working relationship between the two governments, focusing on lasting peace, prosperity, and inclusive and sustainable development in the autonomous region and the entire Mindanao.
Pangandaman highlighted the lifting of the state of national emergency because of lawless violence in Mindanao, indicating significant gains in enhancing and restoring peace and order in the region. She emphasized that focused military and law enforcement operations and programs have contributed to promoting “sustainable and inclusive” peace in Mindanao.
The meeting also saw the presence of key officials and representatives from national government agencies, BARMM ministers, and other IGRB members, including Special Assistant to the President Secretary Antonio Ernesto Lagdameo, Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos, and Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Secretary Carlito Galvez.
In pursuit of socioeconomic development in the region, Pangandaman stressed the need to implement “long-term” and “high-impact” projects in the BARMM during the previous IGRB meeting. The Department of Budget and Management has already released the block grant of BARMM amounting to PHP64.8 billion and the Special Development Fund amounting to PHP5 billion to rebuild, rehabilitate, and develop conflict-affected communities in the region.
