Ilocos Region Reports 24% Drop in Dengue Cases 🦟

🦟 MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Department of Health Center for Health Development in Ilocos Region (DOH-CHD-1) recently released data showing a 24% decline in dengue cases from January 1 to July 22 this year compared to the same period last year. During this time frame, the region recorded 1,957 dengue cases, significantly reducing from the 2,567 cases reported previously.

Among the provinces in the Ilocos Region, Pangasinan registered the highest number of cases at 904, followed by La Union with 521, Ilocos Norte with 400, and Ilocos Sur with 132 cases.

However, the number of fatalities due to the disease increased to 12, compared to nine deaths reported in the same period last year. The recorded deaths were in La Union and Pangasinan, with six each.

Responding to the situation, DOH-CHD-1 regional director Paula Paza Sydiongco assured that all public health facilities are on code white status, fully prepared to address emergencies, and provide immediate assistance and guidance during health emergency response situations.

To combat the spread of dengue, DOH-CHD-1 has prepositioned various anti-water-borne diseases equipment and medical supplies, including insecticides, larvicides, insecticide-treated screens, dengue NS1 (nonstructural protein 1) rapid diagnostic tests, antigen and antibody tests, oral rehydration salt, paracetamol, and prophylactic antibiotics. These resources are available in all provincial DOH and provincial government health offices, ready to be distributed to local government units (LGUs) as needed.

Sydiongco emphasized the importance of public involvement in preventing dengue. She urged everyone to practice the 4S approach:

πŸ” Search and destroy mosquito breeding places,
πŸ₯ Seek early consultation from health experts,
πŸ€’ Secure self-protection, and
🌫️ Support fogging or spraying measures to prevent dengue.

By adhering to these preventive measures and working together, the community can continue to drive down the number of dengue cases and protect public health. πŸ₯πŸ’™
