The NCR’s ‘two cops per quarantine facility’ program begins this week: DILG

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced on Wednesday that at least two police officers will be deployed in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) quarantine facilities this week to prevent people from skipping required isolation.

In a Palace briefing, DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said that in response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s order, 594 police officers would be sent to 297 quarantine facilities in Metro Manila.

“Ang ating pong number ng quarantine facilities ay 297,” says the narrator. Ang categorization niyan is iba-iba. At may (for) sailors, there may be an obligatory quarantine facility, as well as a stringent quarantine facility. Ito naman po natin kakayanin. Meron tayong tinatawag na mobile force battalion na nakatalaga sa NCRPO, police district offices, and stations. (There are 297 quarantine facilities in our system.) There are three types of quarantine facilities: a required quarantine facility, a strict quarantine facility, and one for sailors. This is something we can handle. Malaya explained, “We have a so-called mobile force battalion attached to the NCRPO, police district offices, and stations).”

He added that police officers who had previously been assigned to checkpoints might now be allocated to staff quarantine facilities approved by the Department of Tourism and the Bureau of Quarantine.

“Hindi po mahirap ng PNP (Philippine National Police) to deploy these 594 police personnel in quarantine facilities,” he said (It is not difficult for the PNP to deploy these 594 police officers to quarantine facilities). The PNP can allocate our police officers stationed at checkpoints to various DOT and BOQ-accredited quarantine facilities.)” Malaya said.

According to him, random inspections at quarantine hotels began on December 21 and are still going on.

According to Malaya, the examinations were carried out by the PNP Health Service and the NCRPO on orders from Interior Secretary Eduardo Ao.

“The PNP randomly investigated around 50 (facilities), but since then, allow our PNP one or two days to assign personnel.” “I expect police officers to be dispatched to quarantine facilities as early as tomorrow (Thursday),” he said.

Meanwhile, Ao stated that the PNP is up to the task, assuaging concerns about a reduction in troops in other regions that require police presence.

“Kaya naman ng PNP yan,” she said. Kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi kasi Because, as you know, we respond to what the times demand),” he added in a phone interview.

According to Ao, the administration is attempting to prevent another major outbreak of Covid-19 infections among Filipinos who have recently arrived in the nation.

Meanwhile, PNP Chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos has directed police forces to develop a strategy for the action right away.

“For each shift, two police officers are to be assigned to each hotel.” In a separate statement, Carlos stated, “I will instruct the concerned police units to strategize and rationalize the deployment of troops so as not to jeopardize the other responsibilities that must be completed.”

In collaboration with the DOT, BOQ, Philippine Coast Guard, and local government units, these people will staff a shared inter-agency support desk in each quarantine hotel.

He stated that the PNP would ensure that major functions, including as the continuing relief and restoration operation in typhoon-affected areas, would remain unaffected.

“This endeavor will help us better monitor restaurants that aren’t following protocol,” Carlos added.

This arose after a returning Filipino traveler from the United States, Gwyneth Anne Chua, was able to circumvent quarantine procedures at the Berjaya Hotel and attend a party the day after her arrival. After testing positive for Covid-19, she infected several additional partygoers.

Late this year, the Makati City prosecutor’s office brought criminal charges against Chua and eight other people who were implicated in the breach of quarantine protocols.
