PRRD’s congratulatory statements on the anti-drug drive are appreciated by Ano.

Secretary Eduardo M. Ano of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for praising the DILG and the Philippine National Police (PNP) for their anti-illegal drug efforts and vowed to continue anti-illegal drug operations until the end of the administration.

“Salamat po, Pangulong Duterte,” they said (Thank you, President Duterte). “Ridding the country of illegal narcotics has been a battle since Day One, but the DILG and PNP have achieved substantial triumphs with your guidance and strong political will,” Ano said in a press release on Thursday.

“We pledge to continue all of these efforts in the next six months of the administration.” The President’s encouraging statements will encourage us to continue our efforts and stand by his promise to the people. The DILG and the PNP are committed to seeing this through to the end. He continued, “‘Yan po ang pangako namin sa taumbayan (This is our commitment to the people).”

President Duterte recently expressed his gratitude to the DILG and the PNP for their persistent efforts and dedication in carrying out his administration’s commitment to combating the prevalence of illegal drugs in the country in his recent Talk to the Nation.

“I’d like to commend the DILG and the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the zeal with which they are combating the drug problem,” Duterte remarked.

He also issued a strong challenge to both government agencies to continue their anti-illegal narcotics campaign.

“It has to be a long-term campaign with no end in sight because nakita mo naman sa kaistrikto ko sa droga ganoon rin (you know, I’m really harsh on illegal drugs throughout my watch),” Duterte added.

The DILG and PNP, according to Ano, are grateful for the President’s “lap on the back” for their unwavering efforts to rid communities of illegal drugs.

The President’s gratitude, he said, will serve as an encouragement as the entire DILG organization pledges to deliver till the end of the President’s term on June 30, 2022.

During the recent DILG flag-raising ceremony, Ano stated that the next six months will reveal how effectively the Department has been able to lay the foundations of peace and order, public safety, and good governance through its various initiatives against illegal drugs, criminality, insurgency, and terrorism.

One of the pillars of the Duterte government has been the eradication of illegal narcotics, which is still high on the President’s priority list despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Efforts by the government to combat illegal narcotics

The government’s efforts against illegal drugs did not wane, according to the DILG chief, even while the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic raged on, with PHP74.3 billion worth of illegal drugs collected from July 2016 to November 30, 2021.

According to Ano, the PHP74.3 billion represents the overall worth of illegal substances collected, including cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, and other laboratory equipment. According to him, the largest seizure was of shabu, which totaled PHP62.35 billion.

“Isa ito [shabu] sa pinakamalaking huli hindi lang sa bansa kundi maging (This is one of the biggest hauls not just in the country but also) worldwide,” he remarked.

He claimed that more than 15,000 kilograms of dangerous drugs were destroyed, with shabu accounting for 7,336.55 kilograms, marijuana 3,784.22 kilograms, cocaine 510.52 kilograms, ecstasy 12.64 kilograms, and other illegal drugs such as ephedrine, diazepam, and nalbuphine accounting for 3,390.74 kilograms.

He said that in an effort to reduce the manufacture and distribution of illegal substances, 982 drug dens and 18 clandestine laboratories were shut down across the country.

According to Ano, the Duterte administration’s anti-illegal drugs campaign resulted in a 41% fall in crime volume in the country, while crime solution efficiency and crime conclusion efficiency both increased to 85 percent.

“Ang pinakamaganda po ay sa Gallup World Law and Order Report, ang Pilipinas po ay nasa top 50 at may index score na 84 kapantay ang (The nicest thing here is that the Philippines is included in the top 50 with an index score of 84, along with) Australia, New Zealand, Poland, and Serbia. According to the same survey, 78 percent of Filipinos believe in and support our anti-illegal drug effort “he stated
