DILG advises individuals with mild symptoms to opt for home isolation.
Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Eduardo Ano has urged those with mild symptoms of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) to opt for home quarantine and treatment to avoid overburdening the country’s health-care system.
“Katulad ng sinabi na kung mayroon isang nahawaan, ay buong pamilya na po, more or less.” Magho-house lockdown tayo, kaya. At mayroon, there isn’t enough medical professionals. Let’s do a lockdown of the house. We have a sufficient number of medical personnel. Our quarantine facilities have isolation facilities available for isolation and treatment. We recommend that they be saved for the most serious cases. Those with minor symptoms could choose home quarantine and care),” he said during President Rodrigo Duterte’s filmed public address on Thursday night.
This comes as the number of coronavirus infections in the country continues to rise, with 17,220 new cases reported on Thursday.
Ano warned the public to avoid frantic purchase of flu-like symptom drugs like paracetamol, claiming that pharmacies running out of stock is a “artificial shortage.”
“I hope you have enough medicine to treat your (Covid-19) symptoms.” However, because ‘yung iba kasi ay nag-i-stock na sa bahay, kaya po nagkakaroon ng worry at ang pagtingin po ay parang nagkakaroon ng scarcity. Some people, however, keep these drugs on hand at home, producing panic and the perception of a scarcity),” he stated.
He explained that the government has established the “Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, and Reintegrate + Vaccine Strategy” to combat the virus outbreak, which allows confirmed Covid-19 patients to be treated within 24 hours.
According to Ano, 81,305 contact tracers are on standby, and 38,700 barangay health emergency response teams, along with 284,205 medical workers and 68,332 support employees, have been constituted.
In terms of isolation and treatment, he noted that 30,136 quarantine facilities and 6,981 isolation facilities with a total capacity of 65,204 isolation beds are ready to receive Covid-19 patients.
The government, according to Ano, has stepped up its fight against the spike by implementing a house-to-house immunization campaign that targets specific individuals in priority categories.
He urged people to help the national vaccination initiative by urging their unvaccinated relatives to receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
He noted that those in the A2 (senior citizens) and A3 (those with co-morbidities) categories should contact their respective local government units (LGUs) for house-to-house vaccination services.
As the country struggles to combat the spike in Omicron variant infections, Ano also urged corporations and private companies to carefully follow health rules and provide their employees with the required support.
The workforce, companies, business establishments, hospitals, and government service people are the first to be impacted by the influx, according to him.
Ano added that, in light of the escalating Covid-19 numbers, Philippine National Police (PNP) troops have been dispatched to assist local governments in preserving law and order, since the rise has caused public anxiety and panic.
The spike hasn’t spared them.
Meanwhile, as of Friday, the PNP had registered 298 new Covid-19 instances among its personnel, increasing the total number of confirmed cases to 42,854.
There are 850 active cases out of the total.
There have been no additional recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 41,879, while the death toll remains at 125.
The 295 new cases on Friday are somewhat higher than the 295 new cases on Thursday.
In a Laging Handa briefing, PNP spokesperson Col. Roderick Alba said, “We would like to assure the public that all (members) deployed in front-line areas are fully vaccinated.”
According to PNP data, 215,502 workers (95.63 percent) have received their entire vaccination, with 8,371 (3.71 percent) awaiting their second dose.
A total of 1,481 PNP members (0.66 percent) have yet to receive their vaccinations.
Alba also said that 29 areas across the country are under granular lockdown, including 22 in the National Capital Region, six in Mimaropa, and one in the Cordillera.
He stated that about 40 members of the PNP and 69 force multipliers are working together to ensure that lockdown and quarantine laws are followed.
