The government is working with other drug companies to increase the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines’ emergency use authorization (EUA) for pediatric vaccination.

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. of the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 said they are looking into using other brands of coronavirus vaccines for the younger demographic.

“Kami po ay nakipag-ugnayan na po sa ibang mga brand para po magkaroon po tayo ng EUA dito po sa ages 3 to 11 (We are coordinating with other brand manufacturers so that we can have EUA for ages 3 to 11 years old),” Galvez told President Rodrigo Duterte during a prerecorded Talk to the People broadcast late Monday night on the state

The use of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for children aged 12 to 17 has previously been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Galvez stated that the government plans to begin administering primary doses to 12.5 million youngsters aged 5 to 11 in the second quarter of this year.

According to Galvez, smaller doses of the Pfizer vaccine for this age group “may be accessible by the end of January.”

By April, approximately 11.11 million infants aged 0 to 4 years old may have been immunized, and by June, approximately 10.2 million youngsters aged 12 to 17 years old should have received booster doses.
