Six of the 48 passengers on the MRT-3 have tested positive for Covid-19.
On Tuesday, six passengers who had undergone random and voluntary antigen testing at MRT-3 stations tested positive for Covid-19.
MRT-3 Director for Operations Michael Capati said in a Laging Handa briefing that a total of 48 passengers had been tested so far between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. at the four participating MRT-3 stationsโNorth Avenue, Cubao, Shaw Boulevard, and Taft Avenue.
“We generated 48 samples po ano, volunteerโ42 po ang negative at anim po ang nag-positive (During our morning peak hours, we generated 48 samples from volunteersโ42 po ang negative at anim po ang nag-positive),” Capati stated.
Those who tested positive were told to self-isolate, report to their local government unit (LGU), and consider a confirming reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test, according to the article.
Approximately 147 MRT-3 employees were positive in RT-PCR tests on Monday, he said, and are now being held in home quarantine.
Despite the isolation of a lot of its employees, he claimed the MRT-3 trains are still running at 70 percent capacity.
“Based on our experience, medyo bumababa iyong ating mga ridership ano, and ang health measures naman po natin are properly implemented po,” Capati added.
He observed that MRT-3 usage has decreased in the National Capital Region (NCR) since the Alert Level 3 was issued, indicating that more individuals are choosing to isolate themselves and limit their outdoor activities.
“Ang highest natin is 223,000; dati nag-a-average na tayo ng 200,000 plus.” Ngayon, uma-average lang tayo ng 140,000 (in the past, we averaged over 200,000, with a high of 223,000). “At the moment, our average is only 140,000,” Capati explained.
The free antigen testing for random and willing travelers at the four MRT-3 stations will continue until Friday, January 17 to 21, January 24 to 28, and January 31, 2022.
The antigen tests will be available during the MRT-3’s peak hours of 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
