Patients with severe to critical symptoms of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and those with comorbidities will be prioritized by the municipal administration of Manila’s six district hospitals.

Mild to moderate infections can be treated at home if adequate isolation space is available.

As of Tuesday midday, 42 percent of the Covid-19 beds in Manila’s six hospitals were occupied.

The Ospital ng Maynila, Ospital ng Sampaloc, Jose Abad Santos General Hospital, Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, Ospital ng Tondo, and Sta. Ana Hospital each have 206 beds out of a total of 494.

The Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital, on the other hand, has a 72 percent occupancy rate, with 249 of its 344 beds occupied by returning Filipinos with minor symptoms.

The 12 quarantine facilities are 26% full, although the Tondo High School facility for suspected cases awaiting swab test results is just 13% full.

Last year, during the height of the highly transmissible and contagious Delta variety, the Department of Health prohibited home quarantine, even for asymptomatic cases, in order to prevent the virus’s spread.

Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso of Manila reiterated that individuals who do not have a separate quarantine area at home will be housed in quarantine facilities.

“We will reserve our Covid-19 beds for those who have severe to critical infection and those with comorbidities so that we can efficiently use our hospitals for those who are sick with cancer, or those who are undergoing operations or dialysis, or those who have given birth to protect them from becoming infected,” Domagoso said during a live online briefing on Monday night.
