A medical practitioner and the project leader of the study on lagundi as adjuvant therapy for mild Covid-19 reminded the public that the herbal remedy for cough and asthma has a set dosage.

In a taped program aired Friday afternoon, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Fortunato de la Pea stated the prescribed dosages will ensure that lagundi treatment yields beneficial outcomes.

Adults should take the 600-milligram (mg) tablet or 5 milliliters (ml) of the 600 mg syrup thrice daily, according to Dr. Cecilia Maramba-Lazarte, the project leader of the lagundi clinical trial by the University of the Philippines Manila with support from DOST-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.

The dosage requirements for pediatric patients, on the other hand, might differ depending on their age range.

According to de la Pea, children should take the 300 mg syrup thrice a day, following the indicated dosage per intake: 2.5 to 5 ml for ages 2 to 4, 5 ml for ages 4 to 6, and 7.5 to 10 ml for ages 6 to 12.

He stated that anyone aged 12 and up can take the 600 mg tablet three times a day.

The goal of the lagundi adjuvant therapy clinical trial is to examine if the herb may provide symptomatic relief for mild Covid-19 patients with no comorbidities, or if it can slow the progression of mild to moderate or severe instances.

From July 2020 to August 2021, a two-stage, randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled research was undertaken.
