By February, the PRRD has approved the expansion of limited F2F classes.
According to Malacanang, President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the Department of Education’s (DepEd) suggestion to expand restricted face-to-face (F2F) lessons in areas under Alert Levels 1 and 2 by February.
Following the satisfactory conclusion of the pilot ran from Nov. 15 to Dec. 22, 2021, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones advocated the “progressive expansion” of in-person classrooms in areas under Alert Levels 1 and 2.
Due to a surge in Covid-19 infection in these locations, schools in areas under Alert Level 3–such as Metro Manilaโwill not be included in the expansion phase.
In a Palace news briefing, acting Presidential spokesperson Karlos Nograles declared, “Walang objection si Pangulo doon (The President has no problem to the recommendation).”
F2F lessons, on the other hand, will only be permitted with the approval of local government units (LGUs) and the cooperation of parents and other stakeholders, according to Nograles.
“The expansion of pilot implementation nung (of) face-to-face classrooms will be assessed by the DepEd and the [Department of Health] together,” he added.
Briones praised the test run of limited F2F lessons as “very effective” during Duterte’s prerecorded Talk to the People, which aired Monday night, noting that there was a high level of attendance among pupils.
The trial program involved 287 schools and 15,000 children, according to her. There were no verified Covid-19 cases among the pilot implementation participants.
Only vaccinated teachers and non-teaching professionals would be allowed to participate in the expanded phase, according to Briones.
In the meantime, she suggested that during the growth phase, vaccinated pupils be given priority.
Duterte expressed satisfaction with the “gradual” implementation of pilot restricted face-to-face classes last month.
“I’m delighted they thought of it simply dahan-dahan lang, huwag masyadong mabilis kasi,” he remarked.
