With new instructions, the PNP is stepping up its anti-corruption efforts.
The Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) issued instructions on Sunday to help the organization’s anti-corruption fight.
Under the direction of PNP chief Gen. Dionardo B. Carlos, the new directive aims to boost the cleansing program among police officers so that the public can have faith in the institution.
An IAS desk will be established under the new policies to encourage the public to express their problems and share the accomplishments of law enforcement officers.
“Through this initiative, partner stakeholders will be able to express their issues, frustrations, and praise for the good work of any people or unit,” Carlos explained.
The IAS desk will serve as a consolidated repository for all PNP and personnel-related information. The information gathered will be used to develop a plan to address the issues and concerns.
The IAS would also focus on resolving administrative cases involving PNP employees involved in graft and corruption in a timely and unbiased manner.
IAS will conduct immediate administrative proceedings with the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) to evaluate the administrative culpability of arrested PNP officers and whether the evidence will adequate to remove them from service.
The PNP-AIS will also participate in a more aggressive proactive inspection approach, in which all PNP staff will be subjected to an attendance check, as well as an appraisal of their appearance and public image.
The IAS is nearing completion of the processes and parameters for the State of Discipline, which will allow all PNP units/stations to closely monitor and guide their specific people to avoid engaging in criminal activities such as graft and corruption.
“This is how the company operates.” We continue to design ways to improve the system and to guarantee that we stay true to our mantra of serving and protecting the public with honesty,” Carlos added, saying that the PNP’s first responsibility as law enforcement officers is to preserve the rule of law.
