Due to scheduled maintenance, the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) website will be unavailable for four hours on Sunday.

The PhilSys Step 1 registration procedure would be inaccessible from 11:59 p.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Sunday, according to a Philippine Statistics Authority alert issued Friday night.

After demographic data validation, a total of 50,014,382 Filipinos had completed Step 2 biometrics registration — iris scan, fingerprints, and front-facing image — as of Dec. 11, 2021.

Some registrants used their registration stubs and proper identification cards or documents to create bank accounts at Land Bank of the Philippines kiosks in registration centers.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, into law in August 2018, with the goal of creating a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident immigrants.

The national ID will serve as valid evidence of identity that will make public and private transactions, school enrollment, and bank account opening easier.

It will also increase efficiency, particularly when interacting with government services since people will simply have to display their PhilID during transactions.
