Before the May 9 elections, 38 PNP personnel will be given new duties.
In keeping with the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) continued efforts to isolate the organization from local political politics, at least 38 police commanders in the National Capital Region and other parts of the country have been relocated to different posts.
Provincial directors, city directors, and police chiefs were among those relocated on January 8, according to PNP commander Gen. Dionardo Carlos.
“We did that even before the election time started to make our organization apolitical, to remove any perception of prejudice or familiarity,” Carlos remarked on the sidelines of the PNP’s 31st foundation day on Monday at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
He claims that some of those reassigned have already outstayed their welcome, while others must be replaced since they were chosen by incumbent mayors or governors seeking reelection in municipal and national elections on May 9.
“Our police officers should be politically neutral. They will be present to ensure that the playing field is leveled and that they are not prejudiced in favor of one candidate over another “Carlos remarked.
According to him, the PNP leadership decided on the reassignment of the provincial police directors based on the PNP rotation policy’s review.
Carlos stated that the decision was made by the police regional directors in the case of chiefs of police.
“So that’s it; we do it to be apolitical, to avoid the appearance of partiality or familiarity, and as a result, we’ve lost a number of provincial directors. Our regional director chooses or decides who to take during command visits and command conferences, therefore I evaluate our rotation policy during command visits and command conferences “Carlos remarked.
