More Filipinos receiving primary doses of the Covid-19 vaccination is the finest step toward a progressive reopening of the economy and the safe resumption of face-to-face classes, according to Dr. Ma. Paz Corrales, medical consultant for the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19.

According to Corrales, the biggest gift we can give to our loved ones, the community, and the country is to defend one another.

Corrales remarked during the delivery of 1,746,160 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City, “It’s the finest way to spend a merrier Christmas and a happy New Year.”

The cargo brought the total number of doses donated by the United Kingdom to the Philippines to 5,225,200 via the COVAX Facility to 5,225,200.

“Dapat po magpabakuna na tayo para po maprotektahan tayong lahat kasi ‘pag nagpabakuna tayo (We should get vaccinated to safeguard everyone because if we’re inoculated, we’ll have) fewer infection, death, and patients. In an interview, Corrales stated, “Lahat po tayo makakabalik na sa ating (We can all return to) normal.”

Dr. Teodoro Herbosa, NTF special adviser, British Embassy deputy head of mission Alastair Walton Totty, NTF Director Francel Margareth Taborlupa, UNICEF immunization consultant Rein Dalumpines, UNICEF procurement services officer Bernardo Bersola, and AstraZeneca market access lead Raymond Villaroman were among those who joined Corrales.

According to Totty, the current shipment is “a powerful indication” of developing countries’ fair access to immunizations.

The British government has pledged to donate 100,000 million doses of Covid-19 vaccinations next year, he said.

On Friday night, 201,240 doses of Pfizer vaccine procured by the government arrived in Corrales.

Since February, the Philippines has received 141,624,240 doses, both procured and donated.
