In Iloilo City, about 12K business permits were renewed.

As of Jan. 31, 12, 287 business permits had been renewed, and 1,482 tax orders of payment (TOP) had been granted, indicating that city entrepreneurs are prepared to continue working despite the pandemic.

The TOP is the payment amount payable, which is calculated based on the type of business.

The business permit and licensing system will allow the permit to be printed after it has been paid.

In an interview on Wednesday, Velma Jane Lao, the head of the Iloilo Municipal Local Economic Development Investment and Promotions (LEDIP) office, stated that the city government gave permits to roughly 16,180 new and renewing firms last year.

979, on the other hand, has closed its doors for a variety of reasons, according to her. Aside from permission renewals, the LEDIP office began processing new permits at the beginning of the year.

“People are tremendously excited to start their enterprises,” she added, despite the lack of data on new permit applicants.

Lao was optimistic that individuals who missed the Jan. 31 deadline would still be able to renew their operating permits unless they suffered losses that forced them to terminate their enterprises.

She also mentioned that several firms are closing owing to the health pandemic’s uncertainties.

“They were already hopeful last December,” Lao said, “but we’ve had another surge, and we’re now on Alert Level 3 where bars, in particular, are being closed.”

Meanwhile, businesses that have yet to obtain their “safety seals” should be aware that the city government is preparing to accept applications online.

Their application will be verified by the relevant offices, and if they are compliant, they will be granted conditional approval subject to surprise visits.

The safety seal indicates that an institution meets the minimal public health requirements and processes required to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infection.
