On February 14, the local government plans to begin vaccinations against the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19) for children aged 5 to 11.

The National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) has selected a tentative timetable for the rollout, according to Em Legaspi Ang, executive director of the Emergency Operations Center Task Force (EOC-TF).

In a Facebook post, Ang, who is also the coordinator of the local Covid-19 Vaccination (CoVac) Council, said she attended an online training course on Tuesday on how to give the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines to the age group.

“Only those who have finished this training are permitted to provide vaccinations to children,” she noted.

The Department of Health stated at the point-of-use training that the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is indicated for active immunization for the prevention of Covid-19 caused by SARS-COV-2 in people aged five and up.

“In the Philippines, the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine does not have marketing authorization. The information provided is based on the Food and Drug Administration Philippines’ emergency use permission. “As more information becomes available, this content will be updated,” it stated.

The EOC-TF in Bacolod has already begun master listing minors between 5 to 11 years old who will be given the Covid-19 vaccine, after the local administration requested residents to register their children.
