The first group of DSWD academics consists of 47 social workers.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started the “Post Graduate Diploma on Child Protection and Case Management for DSWD Social Workers” program, in keeping with its aim to improve and strengthen the standards of social work practice.
The first batch of scholars will be made up of 47 registered social workers from the Quezon City central office and field offices.
The DSWD Social Welfare Institutional Development Bureau and the Human Resource Management and Development Service, in collaboration with Miriam College and the United Nations Children’s Fund, organized the learning opportunity.
“The implementation of the program is a great addition to the interventions we do for our registered social workers because we need to develop and strengthen their competencies on child protection and case management, as well as to support the Department’s mandate on technical assistance and resource augmentation function to Local Social Welfare and Development Offices with the Mandanas ruling,” DSWD Secretary Rolando Bautista said in a statement on Friday.
The curriculum would “equip our angels in a red vest with new skills amid altering societal norms owing to the Covid-19 outbreak,” according to Bautista.
As the government implements the Supreme Court’s Mandanas verdict, which would raise LGUs’ internal revenue allotment, the DSWD would devolve its programs to local government units (LGUs) beginning in 2022.
According to the SC judgment, the just share of LGUs must be calculated using all national taxes, not simply internal income taxes.
Other taxes, such as those collected by the Bureau of Customs, are included.
Supplementary feeding programs, assistance to persons with disabilities, a comprehensive project for street children, a social pension that would be transitioned to the National Commission for Senior Citizens, Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations, programs for trafficked persons, sustainable livelihood programs, and the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services are among the programs that would be distributed to LGUs.
