For inbound travelers, Zambo City is strong on the RT-PCR requirement.
Regardless of their vaccination status, the city health office (CHO) insists on requiring inbound travelers to provide negative swab tests or antigen results.
“This is to prevent more coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19) infections,” said Dr. Cathy Garcia, assistant CHO chief, in a statement Friday. “The majority of the arriving tourists had been tested positive for the virus, increasing the city’s active Covid-19 cases.”
Since January 16, the local Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has required all inbound tourists to undergo a negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test or a quick antigen requirement.
Due to the threat posed by the Omicron version, the city is seeing an increase in Covid-19 cases.
However, compared to earlier surges, the impact is significantly reduced, with largely light cases and even lower hospitalization and isolation occupancy.
As of February 2, the Zamboanga Task Force Covid-19 data tracker revealed that the city has 2,651 active cases.
Local isolation facilities, on the other hand, remained at a safe level, according to Garcia, however other hospital facilities, such as the Zamboanga City Medical Center, are at a critical level.
According to the same data, 2,559 active cases were acquired through community transmission, accounting for 96.52 percent of all current cases.
Detainees at police station level, 63; Bureau of Jail Management and Penology personnel, 14; authorized persons outside dwelling, 11; persons deprived of liberty, two; returning overseas Filipinos (ROF), one; and Bureau of Corrections, one are the remaining ongoing cases.
When Covid-19 instances spiked, Garcia added, the local government swiftly activated home isolation procedures, allowing qualifying patients to self-isolate at home.
“Only those with severe symptoms who are too dangerous to be isolated at home are admitted to and confined in hospitals,” she explained.
