According to Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chair J. Prospero de Vera III, a total of 1,839,846 college students have been vaccinated against Covid-19 so far.

De Vera said in an online media conference that the amount equates to 45.91 percent of the 4,007,795 tertiary student population as of November 25.

“This is a substantial rise, considering our immunization rate was less than 30% after the first two weeks of vaccination in October. We’ve reached over 56% currently “he stated

He added that tertiary students’ vaccination is still a concern in some areas across the country, particularly in Regions 5 (Bicol), 12 (Soccsksargen), and 4B. (Mimaropa).

“Some of these, such in Mimaropa, are due to the area’s island character, but there are regions like Region 9 where vaccination rates are already at 75 percent,” he noted. “So, in these locations, we’re pushing for school-based immunization,” says the author.

School-based vaccination is easier, according to CHED, because schools maintain master lists of vaccinated and unvaccinated kids and infrastructure for suitable inoculation activities.

Meanwhile, 239,431 HEI employees, both teaching and non-teaching, have been vaccinated, accounting for 82.45% of the 290,380 total.

Approximately 375 HEIs and 10,504 student and personnel volunteers participated in the three-day nationwide immunization initiative, with 244,064 tertiary students scheduled to get vaccinated.

166 higher education institutions have offered their premises as immunization locations.
