France’s vax offer is a “powerful” show of friendship, according to the envoy.

A total of 1,632,900 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday, the first batch of a multi-million dollar Covid-19 vaccine contribution to the Philippines via the COVAX Facility.

The vaccination doses arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 as part of a contribution that will eventually reach 5,850,000 doses of various vaccine brands, according to French Ambassador to the Philippines Michèle Boccoz.

“Moderna, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca are just the beginning. As a result, it’s a very strong expression of friendship,” Boccoz explained.

She praised the COVAX Facility, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the European Union for their work in “saving people all around the world and contributing to an efficient fight against the disease, striving to prevent the appearance of new variation.”

On the other side, Carlito Galvez Jr., the lead implementer of the National Task Force Against Covid-19 and the vaccine czar, hailed France for “their act of humanity,” stressing that the first batch will benefit over 800,000 people.

He estimated that 39 million doses of vaccine would be donated through COVAX, the WHO, Gavi, and the vaccination alliance.

He claims that the government has received over 48 million donated vaccine shots to date.

He also thanked UNICEF for assisting with the logistics of the vaccination doses and for assisting in the procurement of syringes during a “global critical shortage.”

He committed to vaccinate three million more older folks and those with comorbidities as part of the government’s vaccination program to ensure the Filipino people’s safety.

“And we’ll also pledge that we’ll look after the underprivileged, the most vulnerable individuals,” Galvez stated.

He stated that the government’s vaccination program will “continue the momentum until such time as we can reach the farthest, most geographically challenged areas in the entire Philippine archipelago,” citing the efforts of local government units, the private sector, and national government agencies.
