‘Bayanihan,Bakunahan’ is being extended by 24 LGUs in West Visayas.

According to the Department of Health Western Visayas Center (DOH WV), an initial 24 local government units in Western Visayas have voluntarily extended the national vaccination program “Bayanihan,Bakunahan” till December 3.

Because “Bayanihan,Bakunahan” is a whole-of-society strategy, DOH WV for Health Development Medical Officer Bea Camille Natalaray explained that its extension would mean that LGUs may still benefit from volunteer and private sector assistance.

“Of course, the DOH is ready to assist LGUs with resource augmentation as needed till December 3, 2021,” she said in an interview.

The LGUs of Hinigaran, Talisay, Sagay, EB Magalona, Candoni, Silay, San Carlos, San Enrique, Himamaylan, Bago, Murcia, Kabankalan, Escalante, and Moises Padilla in Negros Occidental are among those who have already informed the DOH of their intention to extend.

Ibajay, Banga, and New Washington in Aklan; Pandan in Antique; and Sigma, Jamindan, Pilar, Ivisan, Tapaz, and Cuartero in Capiz have all stated that they intend to prolong the vaccine campaign.

Until 11 a.m. on December 1, a partial cumulative count of inoculated individuals in the three-day vaccination campaign revealed 592,341 inoculated individuals or 74.88 percent of the 791,034 goals in the region.

“When compared to our usual immunization days, certain areas or provinces have nearly doubled or tripled their achievements.” “We have provinces that have outperformed their commitments,” she remarked.

Negros Occidental and Antique provinces, as well as the highly urbanized towns of Iloilo and Bacolod, have exceeded their commitment.

Bacolod City, which pledged 66,171 for the three-day objective, has vaccinated 70,752, while Iloilo City has vaccinated 21,208, exceeding its goal of 18,000 people.

Meanwhile, Negros Occidental completed 213,291 tasks, beating its goal of 150,000, and Antique completed 51,699 tasks, above its goal of 45,000.

Even if the “Bayanihan,Bakunahan” is not implemented, Natalaray stated that routine immunization will continue in order to reach the 70% target eligible population by the end of the year.

There is also a suggestion for a second round of national vaccination days on December 15-17, though guidelines on the target number or focused locations are still pending.

“For the projected part two of the national vaccination days, we are currently waiting for our series of consultative meetings with our LGUs and the National Vaccination Operations Center instructions,” she added.
