Pinoys and foreign diplomats from countries on the red list are allowed to enter.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Tuesday that Filipinos and foreign diplomats arriving from countries on the government’s red list will be spared from the government’s travel ban issued in response to the threat of the Omicron Covid-19 strain.
The new policy was adopted on Nov. 25 by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases (IATF), according to Commissioner Jaime Morente.
Last December 2, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) sent the directive to several ministries and agencies, according to Morente.
The exemption also applies to the diplomats’ qualifying dependents, such as their spouses and children, according to him.
“We have previously informed our immigration agents in various ports, as well as foreign airlines, about these travel ban exemptions,” he added.
Philippine officials and their delegations on official travel overseas, as well as Philippine diplomats and their dependents returning to the country at the end of their tour of duty, are exempt from the tax.
Personnel arriving for a home office consultation or an authorised leave of absence, as well as foreign diplomats and their dependents, are exempt from posting.
To restrict the spread of the Omicron form, the Philippines has placed 14 nations on its red list, or list of countries at high risk of Covid-19.
Apart from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, and Mozambique, the government has placed Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, and Italy on the red list, which will remain in effect until December 15.
