The Department of Health has located five missing passengers from South Africa.
On Friday, a health official revealed that the Department of Health (DOH) has discovered five additional South African passengers who have been labeled “missing.”
In a Viber message to reporters, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said, “We have already discovered another five, so we are just attempting to trace two of these travelers.”
The newly found Omicron version of the coronavirus was initially detected in South Africa, imposing new travel restrictions around the world.
Many countries, including the Philippines, have closed their borders to countries where Omicron instances have been recorded.
The unidentified passengers are among the 253 people who arrived in the nation between November 15 and November 29, according to the DOH.
They are all returning abroad Filipinos who were unable to be reached due to the fact that some of them provided their agency’s contact numbers rather than their personal numbers. Others provided figures that were either erroneous or incomplete.
The Department of Health is working with local government units, the Bureau of Quarantine, and the Philippine National Police to track down other travelers and prevent the Omicron variant from entering the country.
