Locsin will represent the Philippines at the G7-Asean summit.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced Friday that Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. will attend the G7-Asean Foreign and Development Ministers’ Meeting in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has been invited as a guest of the G7 summit on Sunday, along with Australia, India, and the Republic of Korea.
Locsin will meet with ministers from the EU and G7 countries to discuss vaccination and global health security, infrastructure, technology, gender equality, shared security, and other regional and global problems of mutual concern, according to the DFA.
This is the first time the ASEAN and the G7 have met at the level of foreign ministers.
The United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, and Italy make up the Group of 7, or G7.
The meeting will be hosted by the United Kingdom, which became Asean’s 11th conversation partner in 2021 and is also the president of the G7 this year.
