PRRD claims he “doesn’t deserve” his popularity, which he attributes to Cabinet.
President Rodrigo Duterte stated on Monday that he believes his popularity is undeserved, and that his Cabinet members are the true stars of the country’s Covid-19 response.
This comes as Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Jacinto Paras revealed that many local authorities continue to give the Duterte administration “complete support” in dealing with the current health crisis.
Political leaders, according to Paras, wanted Duterte to stay on as the country’s top official if he wasn’t bound by the Constitution.
Duterte, on the other hand, stated Carlito Galvez Jr., the head of the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid-19 and vaccine czar, Vince Dizon, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and Interior Secretary Eduardo Ao deserved greater recognition for leading the country’s fight against Covid-19.
In a pre-recorded public address, Duterte said, “I am not taking any credit without bringing in the full entourage who has assisted me in my duties as President.”
Despite the fact that the Philippines lacked resources in the start of the pandemic and had to rely on other nations for help, he claimed he is “fortunate” to have a “good team” who are dedicated to their work.
“Ako (Me), I don’t believe I’m deserving of such acclaim. I’d rather share it with all of the department secretaries and directors who are doing an excellent job and are the number one exhibit, thanks to Secretaries Dizon, Galvez, Ao, and Lorenzana. Nakikita mo ang trabaho resulta (We can see the result of their work). “And to think we started with nothing,” he continued.
Duterte acknowledged that his administration isn’t flawless, but he wanted to complete his tenure knowing that he had done his utmost to promote government transparency, accountability, and good governance.
“Gusto ko talaga na malinis ang ano ko (I want us to be clean even though we’ve made mistakes),” she said. I’m hoping that we can at the very least not delete but rather bring to light sa tao para wala tayong tinatago (to the people so that nothing is hidden). We want to go out, and a clean bill of health is just a couple of months away,” he continued.
Duterte also had a “very good” rating of +60 net satisfaction from the Social Weather Stations in December 2021.
This was 8% higher than his September 2021 rating, but 19% lower than his November 2020 rating.
Duterte’s popularity rating improved to 72 percent in another study done by Pulse Asia in December 2021.
His approval rating increased by eight percentage points from the 64% he received in September of the same year.
